Gov. Nikki Haley told the press on Tuesday, September 22 that despite gas shortages and reports of price gouging in North Carolina, South Carolina is currently receiving regular supplies of fuel. She stated that she has spoken with suppliers and they have reported business as usual regarding fuel arriving into the state. The gas shortages have resulted from a pipeline leak in Alabama, which primarily supplies states along the East Coast.

When someone says something false about an individual that can be damaging to his or her reputation in the community, or deter people from doing business with that person, then it is considered slander defamation. If the false statement is published by a third party, such as in a newspaper, in an online blog, or social media post like Facebook or Twitter, then it is considered libel defamation. If defamation can be proven, then the individual that has been defamed may be entitled to monetary compensation. However, defamation can be tricky, and comes with a lot of gray area.
